A HOUSE ON A HILL

2021

This was my first time to Tanzania and it was my best friend Lorraine’s moms birthday. for the past few years Milly has spent her birthday going to visit the orphanage and celebrating with the children there. this year would be no different. I was pumped! We arrived at a little yellow house on a hill and the man of the house welcomed us and invited us inside. He told us how things had been going for them there and all the plans they had to continue to make the house better for the children they looked after. currently they were working on building three tiered bunkbeds so that everyone would have a place to sleep. He shared with us how he did not view this house as a halfway point for the children that God would place in his care. instead he has decided to assume the role of earthy father for every child they ever have come through the doors and He will spend the rest of his life loving and looking after these kids no mater where they go. At the time he had 50 kids. He also explained to us how he believes that when we go places we are sent by God with something to share. So as we all sat upstairs inside the little yellow house he began asking us to share something. He put me on the spot and if I am honest I cant remember what I said lol probably something about how I was learning the value of living a slow life. After we spoke for a while He took us outside to meet the kids and they put on a little concert for us. two of the kids took turns leading the group in song. They sang so beautiful it would make your heart stop. i’m pretty sure I legally died for a second or two. After the kids sang for a while the man of the house again decided He would put us all on the spot and have us share something with the kids. I was nervous… before I felt somewhat better because everyone inside the house with us spoke English but when he asked us to share with the kids I felt like I was unable to communicate well. After a quick prayer I decided since they sang for me I would sing for them. When it was my turn to speak I sang over the kids “Jesus loves you this I know for the Bible tells me so little ones to him belong they are weak but He is strong. Yes Jesus loves you Yes Jesus loves you yes Jesus loves you the Bible tells me so”. the kids smiled at me and I smiled back and in that moment I saw first hand that when you communicate with love it dose not matter if you speak the same language or not… the message is well received. After we all shared we took turns praying for each other and then we celebrated not just one but 2 birthdays. This was one of the best days I have ever had.
